Girls On The Run Charlotte Announced As 2017 MLT Charlotte Non-Profit Partner
Charlotte, NC (March 24, 2017) – Major League Triathlon is thrilled to announce Girls on the Run Charlotte (GOTR) as MLT Charlotte’s official Non-Profit Partner. Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a positive youth development program that empowers girls to boldly pursue their dreams and activate their limitless potential. Their life-changing program uses a fun, experience-based curriculum, utilizing running as the primary vehicle. Through lessons and running games the girls develop confidence in themselves and gain the tools to navigate adolescence.
GOTR is headquartered in MLT’s hometown of Charlotte and currently operates in all 50 states with over 220 councils, serving 200,000 girls annually nationwide. Their Charlotte council serves 4,000 girls in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties at 125 program sites.
"We could not be more excited to work with a non-profit that embodies everything for which MLT stands,” said Daniel Cassidy, CEO of Major League Triathlon. “Girls on the Run is making a positive difference in the lives of countless young women through teaching the principles of a healthy lifestyle; that’s what we’re all about.”
MLT will host a booth at the culminating event of the GOTR program season at the Girls on the Run spring 5K Series, April 29 at Whitehall Corporate Center in Charlotte and May 6 at Northcross Shopping Center in Huntersville and be involved with Girls on the Run at GOTR events as well as during the MLT Charlotte Weekend. MLT will also work with GOTR to help raise money to support their programs and utilize the MLT platform to create unique activations with GOTR coaches, participants and SoleMates (athletes that race on behalf of GOTR to help raise money for the non-profit). Girls on the Run will cheer on the MLT professional athletes as they compete in the MLT Triathlon May 20 at Marshall Park in Charlotte. The eight teams in this professional triathlon will consist of 32 of the best elite triathletes from all over the world. Each athlete will swim 300 meters, bike four miles and run one mile, one at a time, before tagging their next teammate. The first team to have all four athletes cross the finish line will win.
“We are thrilled to work with MLT this spring and look forward to continuing to promote the importance of health and wellness to not only the girls in our program, but also to the Charlotte community,” says Girls on the Run Charlotte Executive Director, Carrie Hanson.
