Cleveland Rock and Roll Victorious in Encore Performance
MLT Atlantic City Presented by the Claridge - A Radisson Hotel
Atlantic City, New Jersey welcomed the 2nd round of the MLT series to its world-famous beach and boardwalk. Surrounded by thousands of spectators, the Cleveland Rock and Roll took center stage yet again, though this time with a slightly different team line-up. In an exciting turn of events, the gender order was reversed in the Atlantic City race as compared to the previous, with the four athletes racing in a Male - Female - Male - Female order. 2016 US Olympian Greg Billington, replacing top-ranked American Kevin McDowell (who was racing the ITU World Cup in Cagliari, Italy), led his team off in the unique swim-bike-run team event.
Billington faced a supreme challenge from John Rasmussen of the Carolina Gliders, who beat the Olympian to the first exchange zone. Lindsey Jerdonek, the 2nd leg of the Cleveland Rock and Roll, reigned supreme on her leg as she broke open the race. Though there were other challengers through the rest of the event, such as Ben Kanute and Alissa Doehla of the Indy Cats putting up a tremendous performance to almost claw their way to the top of the podium, Jerdonek’s 2nd leg was the defining moment of MLT Atlantic City Presented by the Claridge - A Radisson Hotel. AJ Baucco and Sarah Alexander, the 3rd and 4th legs for the Cleveland team on June 3rd, held first position throughout their legs as they brought home yet another #1 hit on the MLT charts. With half of the season now finished and the Championship event serving as their home race, the Rock and Roll seem poised to carry their momentum throughout the latter half of this epic league’s 2017 event schedule.
The athletes faced a 300 meter swim in the Atlantic Ocean, followed by a leg-draining bike and run course - featuring a total of twelve 180 degree turns - on the iconic boardwalk. The competitors raced along globally renowned resorts and casinos, such as Caesar’s Palace, Bally’s, and the Claridge - A Radisson Hotel. Spectators from a multitude of demographics came out in droves to witness the first-ever professional triathlon event to hold their entire bike and run portions on the boardwalk.
